The Kalashnikov Family Will Not Return the AK-47 Brand

The Supreme Court of Russia denied CJSC "M.T. Kalashnikov "owned by Mikhail Kalashnikov's relatives in the revision of the decision on the rights to the automaton brand.

According to Rospatent the brand was registered at CJSC "M.T. Kalashnikov "in 2004, at the end of 2012 legal protection was extended until 2022. It applies to clothing, hats, toys, slot machines and board games.

In June 2014 the concern demanded early termination of the legal protection of the trademark in respect of these goods in Russia.

In April 2016 the Intellectual Property Court fully satisfied the claim of OJSC Concern "Kalashnikov", by decision of which it partially terminated the rights of the firm "M.T. Kalashnikov "on the brand AK-47.

Kalashnikov's relatives later filed a cassation appeal with the Presidium of the Intellectual Property Court, but it was rejected.
